There are over forty-seven miles of Township roads in Painesville Township, all paved or hard-surfaced. A major goal of the Road Department is to keep the ongoing program of maintenance of road surfaces in place, involving much more than just taking care of the roads:

• Snow and ice control
• Storm sewer repairs
• Patch and maintain road surfaces
• Mowing of road berms
• Annual leaf collection
• Annual Christmas tree collection
• Assist Fire Department in emergency situations
• Roadside ditching
• Clean and maintain basins
• Installation and repair of street signs
• Maintenance of Nye Road Cemetery
• Annual Brush Collection
• Service and maintain vehicles/equipment

Snow Removal: We are responsible for clearing over forty-seven miles of roadways in the Township. Ninety-nine percent of these forty-seven plus miles serve residential areas. The remaining roads are maintained by either the State or the County. On many streets, the lack of curbs to clearly define the roadway and mailboxes makes it very challenging for plow operators. When the snow reaches two inches or more, no parking is allowed on Township roads. When plowing driveways, please do not push snow in the road or onto neighboring properties. Our priority is to guarantee access to police, fire, and paramedic services.

Tree/Shrub Trimming: In spring, many residential streets in Painesville Township burst into the spectacular bloom of hundreds of flowering roadside trees, part of a master tree-planting program begun by the Trustees in the early 1960's. Each year, trees and shrubs obscuring sight and road signs on the road rights-of-way are trimmed.

Township Maintained Roads: Township officials are proud of the work done by the Road Department, the up to date procedures, materials used and the results as shown in the good condition of Township maintained roadways. Some roadways within the Township are NOT maintained by the Township:

Woodworth Ave. Bank St. Blase Nemeth Rd. Casement Ave. Freedom Rd. Hardy Rd. Liberty St. Newell St. Palmer Rd. Welch Rd.

We maintain a close relationship with the County Engineer and the Ohio Dept. of Transportation to assure they take good care of the roads for which they have responsibility.
