Fire protection and rescue services are provided on a 24 hour basis by the Painesville Township Fire Department, whose capability was recognized April 1, 1976, by an improved insurance fire class rating of 5. The department mans two showplace fire stations located on Nye and Bowhall Roads. Besides a full complement of firefighting equipment, two rescue vehicles are housed at each station. Training of firefighters for rescue and fire response is continuous. A Fire Prevention Code was adopted in 1975.

Nye Road Station #1 Equipment List

  • 1997 75' Quint 1500 G.P.M. Pump, 1,000' 4" hose; 500' 3" hose; miscellaneous 2" and 1-3/4" hose and pre-connects.
  • 1993 1250 G.P.M. Pump, 1,000' 4" hose; 150' 1-3/4" hose; 200' 1-3/4" hose; 200' 2-1/2" hose and pre-connects; 300' 3" hose, 600' 2-1/2" hose.
  • One heavy duty rescue unit with air bags, rescue tools (jaws of life); cribbing; air chisel.
  • Two Paramedic squads with LifePak and AED equipped.
  • One Jeep Cherokee four wheel drive miscellaneous vehicle.
  • One Chief's car.

Bowhall Road Station #2 Equipment List

  • 1994 1250 G.P.M. Pump, 1,000' 4" hose; 150' 1-3/4" hose, 200' 1-3/4" hose; 200' 2-1/2" pre-connects; 600' 3" hose, 700' 2-1/2" hose; 200' 1-3/4" hose; thirty gallon foam tank pre-connect.
  • 1987 1000 G.P.M. Pumper/Tanker, 1,350 Gallon tank; 1,000 4" hose, 300' 3" hose; 200' 1-1/2" hose; 200' 2-1/2" hose; two 200' 1-1/2" pre-connects.
  • Two Paramedic squads with LifePak and AED equipped.
  • One four wheel drive utility pickup.
  • One heavy duty rescue unit with air bags, rescue tools (jaws of life); cribbing; air chisel.
  • Rope rescue equipment - harnesses, ascenders, etc.
  • 6000' reserve hose.
  • Spill response tanker

Manpower

  • 18 Paid part-time
  • 16 full-time
  • 1 full-time Chief

Minimum three personnel on duty per station. Minimum five man response on initial call and personnel paged to scene.
